Operation and Maintenance Instructions :

Polyhydron make Cartridge Valves are reliable and hence require very little attention from the user. However it is necessary that following points must be kept in mind while storage, operation, commissioning and maintenance.

Storage :

It is necessary that during storage the valve must be well lubricated and properly covered. This will prevent ingress of dirt/dust in the working mechanism of the unit and during commissioning it will be easy to install the same.

Operation :

Cartridge valves are two port valves that block flow, allow free flow, or modulate flow or pressure in response to pressure signal.

Cartridge valves basically consists of a sleeve, poppet and spring that are inserted into a manifold. The poppet moves within the sleeve to control the flow through the valve. The inserted parts are held in the manifold by cover which contains a pilot flow passage.

The two main ports, labeled ‘A’ and ‘B’, each have an active area to open the valve. The ‘A’ area is the circular area defined by the valve seat ; the ‘B’ area is the annular area between the seat and the poppet. The pilot or ‘X’ port is connected through the cover to the spring chamber of the valve. Pressure in the pilot port acts over the entire poppet area, which equals the ‘A’ area plus ‘B’ area

The valve opens and closes in accordance with the force balance equation.

These are available in two models ; 1 : 1 area ratio and 1 : 1.5 area ratio. Different springs can be used for different cracking pressures.

Commissioning :

During commissioning, the Cartridge valves do not need any special attention but following points must be kept in mind.

Port ‘A’ must be connected to pressure side, port ‘B’ to tank.

Cap screws and corresponding tightening torque should be used as mentioned in the Data sheets.

Maintenance :

The Cartridge valves do not need major attention, however it is necessary that following points must be kept in mind for proper working of the valves.

The oil must be of prime quality and clean as per ISO 16/13 and must be changed periodically. Contaminated oil may lead to the wear and tear of both poppet and sleeve there by increasing the clearance. This results in improper working of the valve.

The oil temperature must be within the specified range. i.e. –20 to +70 degree Celsius.

The O’rings and back-up rings should be checked periodically.
